Have you ever stood at the edge of a vast ocean, watching waves roll endlessly toward the shore? The rhythmic sound of the water, the salty breeze on your face, and the endless horizon stretching out before you – it’s a moment that can take your breath away. Perhaps, like me, you’ve felt something powerful in that stillness – a sense of being part of something much greater than yourself. The ocean, in its vastness, carries a timeless rhythm, a reminder that some things remain constant through the rise and fall of generations.
This is how I see the stories of the Bible: eternal truths washing over our modern lives like waves on the shore. They bring wisdom, hope, and transformation, shaping us with their steady, unchanging purpose. Just as the ocean’s waves smooth the rough edges of stones over time, these stories refine and renew us, encouraging us to look beyond our immediate struggles to see the greater story God is writing in our lives.
Each wave reminds me that the shore is never static – it is shaped and reshaped by the forces of water and time. In the same way, our hearts and minds are transformed as we allow these ancient truths to roll over us, meeting us where we are and carrying us closer to who we are called to be.
Why “Qavah”?
So why “Qavah”? Why centre this blog around such an unusual word? In Hebrew, this beautiful word (קָוָה) means “to wait” or “to hope” – but not in a passive sense. It describes an active, expectant waiting, like a bowstring pulled taut with anticipation. It’s the kind of hope that keeps us on our toes, eyes fixed forward, hearts ready for what God will do next.
I remember a moment during a hike when I stumbled upon a single wildflower blooming in the shade of a rock. The sun filtered through the trees, casting delicate patterns of light and shadow on its petals. It wasn’t in the open or part of a vibrant meadow, but there it was – thriving quietly, rooted in its hidden place.
As I paused to take it in, I felt a sense of awe. That flower wasn’t in a hurry, nor was it waiting for anyone to notice. It simply grew where it had been planted, trusting in the provision of sun, rain, and soil. It was a picture of quiet resilience and grace, a reminder that life often flourishes in the still and unseen moments.
This is what Qavah means to me: an active, expectant waiting, much like that flower’s steady growth. It’s not about striving to make things happen on our own but trusting that God is at work, even when we can’t see the full picture. In those moments of waiting, He nurtures us, strengthens us, and prepares us for what’s to come.
This perfectly captures what I aim to create here: a space where ancient biblical narratives spring to life with fresh perspective and purpose, where we actively hope and wait upon God’s wisdom to guide our modern journeys.
